An Inside Look At the Tasting Tuesdays Experience

November 8, 2014 -

Dear Wine Lovers,

My name’s Erin Motz, I’m a yoga teacher, YouTuber, and self-proclaimed Bad Yogi. I could never turn down a fine cheese or a full-bodied red wine, so when I got invited to Carrabba’s headquarters last week to try out their wine + food pairing called Tasting Tuesdays, I was all over it. It had been years since I’d been to a Carrabba’s so I really wasn’t sure what I was walking in to…

I’m happy to report that I was totally surprised– in a good way! It was really nice. I met with the Director of Beverage, Ken Lennox, who picks the wines that get included in the experience. Before I go on, let me just tell you: this guy really knows his stuff.

The way he explained everything was so simple and accessible, it made it really easy to understand, and I felt like I actually learned something instead of just watching an “expert” drone on for an hour.

Sure, we talked about how to taste wines “properly” and what to look for, but he really emphasized how they encourage people to taste their wine selections, which I loved. It’s not a right vs. wrong approach, it’s simply a way to see what you like. He made it clear that everyone’s individual experience will be different, and we should step away from the thought that experiencing wine has to be a super exclusive, fancy-pants thing. What tastes fruity to one person might taste more like vanilla to someone else. What I think pairs well with steak might not be what you like with steak. I like that it was more about the experience and having fun with it than about getting it “right.”

Speaking of steak…

How bout that Head Chef, Jay? He’d walk in and present a chicken marsala, describing all the flavors with the most sincere, gentle smile you could imagine. Each time he brought in a new dish, his demeanor was the same: the quintessential southern gentleman. Chill, calm, and as humble as if he had cooked for you in his own kitchen at home. I’ll tell you what though– that man can cook. I’ll let some pictures do the talking:

Next time you’re in the neighborhood, get your buns over to your local Carrabba’s to experience Tasting Tuesdays for yourself. You’ll love it!
