It’s a New Year and by now you have probably been resolving to eat better for a few weeks now! I know that doing this is easier said than done. Luckily, Carrabba’s offers many healthful options that will help you (and me) stick to a variety of healthful eating goals all year long. Here are my top tips to help you maintain your New Year’s resolutions with Carrabba’s new flavors.
Healthful Eating Resolution #1: Counting calories
When counting calories it’s important to know how many calories you should eat. While each individual’s calorie requirement is different, the typical adult American requires 1,800 – 2,000 calories a day*. This usually adds-up to a 400 calorie breakfast, 600 calorie lunch, 600 calorie dinner and one or two 200 calorie snacks.
Carrabba’s has almost 30 menu options from appetizers to desserts that are under 600 calories! Like all of the menu options, Carrabba’s focuses on the quality of its ingredients and layered fresh flavors to create the under 600 calorie menu options. Here are some of my newly created favorites:
Grilled Asparagus with Prosciutto, 140 calories: Wood-grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and fontina, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.
Tuscan-Strawberry Salad with Chicken, 540 calories: Wood-grilled chicken served over mixed greens, fresh strawberries, toasted pine nuts, red onion, tomatoes, and crumbled gorgonzola cheese in our strawberry vinaigrette.
Chianti Chicken, 550 calories: Wood-grilled and served with Carrabba’s chianti demi-sauce and an arugula salad tossed with apples, grapes, toasted hazelnuts and lemon vinaigrette.
Raspberry Gelato, 170 calories: Topped with an almond biscotti.
Healthful Eating Resolution #2: Going Gluten-Free
A gluten-free diet can be a good way to focus on increasing the consumption of healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, seafood, nuts, healthy fats and naturally gluten-free whole grains. However, if not careful, a gluten-free diet can lack essential vitamins, minerals and fiber. Carrabba’s gluten-free menu options are built with a foundation of fresh ingredients to maximize their healthfulness**. And the best news, we finally found a gluten-free pasta that met our flavor and quality standards! My newly created gluten-free favorites are:
Gluten-Free Pasta Pomodoro: We did it! Our gluten-free Casarecce pasta is a short pasta similar to penne or rotini made with corn, rice and quinoa flour. It can be paired with any of our gluten-free sauces. My favorite is our Pomodoro sauce but it also pairs nicely with our Positano sauce.
Tomato Caprese with Fresh Buratta, 490 calories: Creamy burratta mozzarella, tomatoes, fresh basil, red onions, balsamic glaze, drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil.
Salmon Cetriolini, 850 calories: Wood-grilled and topped with diced tomato, cucumber and dill in our lemon white wine sauce.
Healthful Eating Goal #3: Eat Healthfully as a Family
One of my top tips for eating healthfully and sticking to those New Year or “All Year” resolutions is to eat healthfully as a family. This environment encourages conversation about the healthful ingredients and flavors making them even more enjoyable. Along with the wide variety of Under 600 Calorie and Gluten-Free menu options, Carrabba’s also created two healthful kid’s meals that meet the nutritional requirements of the National Restaurant Association’s Kids LiveWell*** menu program. Kid’s 10 years and under can pick from:
